Primary and secondary camerawedding photography gear

The wedding photography niche can be a really expensive one to tackle but with the right perspective and with the right kind of preparation, it is something that you can easily achieve. If photography is something that you are extremely fond of and passionate about to the point wherein you are willing to take it a step further and actually launch a career out of it, then chances are, you may already have everything that you can possibly need to get you started. You basically need to start off with a high quality camera and a secondary one that is of fairly high quality as well. The reason why a second camera is such a necessity is because of the fact that you will need some kind of backup for your gear in the event that something happens to your main or primary camera one way or the other.

Assortment of lenses

Technically speaking, you will not really need a whole army of photography lenses to begin with, just enough to let you capture all of the shots that you will need to take. This is something that you will have to approach with caution one way or the other because of the fact that lenses are extremely expensive and the issue of finances is the most common one out there that a lot of people new wedding photography are struggling with. So, technically speaking, you will need to start off with two basic lenses: a telephoto lens and then a wide angle lens. A telephoto lens works great for those times wherein you need to take close-up shots but you do not have the luxury of being up close and you need to keep a respectable distance during moments like the actual wedding ceremony, the emotional speeches and so on and so forth. A wide angle lens will equip you in being able to take really great group photos without the embarrassing struggle of making them all fit into the lens’ view angle.

Memory cards and camera batteries

You will need an entire army of memory cards and batteries if you want to make sure that you have more than enough to cover you all throughout the time that you are filming your wedding photography Hampshire coverage. You should always work in the principle of twos. You need twice the amount of memory space that you think you will be using and you also need two or more extra batteries per camera.

Tripod

A tripod is one of the most important accessories that you will ever get your hands on. It can provide you with enough stability and support particularly during those moments where in you will have to shoot in low light settings. The issue with filming with low light is the fact that the camera automatically adjusts its shutter speed and slows it intentionally causing some unnecessary vibrations in the process. This can be exacerbated when you hold the camera by hand. That is why having a tripod set in place can be extremely helpful in getting the smoothest and the most stable quality of photos that you can ever get your hands on one way or the other.

Wedding Photography

wedding tipsOne of the most common disagreements that brides and wedding photographers have when it comes to wedding photography would have to be the moments that have been missed out on during the wedding. This is an argument that can get nasty and just downright distasteful and you should do everything that you possibly can to make sure that this is something that does not happen. Sit down with the bride and groom and really talk it out with them.

Ask for particular shots

Ask the bride and groom if there are any particular kinds of shots that they know that they absolutely cannot do without. List all of these down and make sure that you really put pen to paper. Keep the list with you at all times and make sure that this is something that you are able to follow through on. Ideally, you should have at least fifteen items on the list coming from the bride and the groom. Feel free to add on any other items that you feel should be part of the process. While you are at the actual event, cross things out as you go.

Do not lose focus

Make sure that you do not lose your focus and make sure that this is something that you really are able to commit to at some point. Over time, you will see that you will not be needing the must have shot list as much as you used to anymore but keep it on you at all times for good measure just until you are pretty much able to commit everything to memory.

Change perspective

There will be moments when you are covering the wedding wherein you are not getting all the right kinds of candid and natural looking expressions that you would like to get as much as you would like to. This an issue that can really be a little bit too common at times. Sometimes, the bride and groom and the rest of the other people in the wedding party can get a bit self conscious with the camera shoved at their faces all of the time. A change of perspective is what is much needed at a time like this. Change your lens up a bit and try to go for a telephoto lens. Our London wedding photographer uses a telephoto lens from time to time. This lens will allow you to scoot to the back of the room and still be able to get those much needed close up photos. This is particularly helpful during the solemn wedding ceremony, during speeches, and so on and so forth.

Be on first name basis with the bride and the groom

Do the same with the key players in the wedding such as the maid of honor and the best man. Having people that you are quite familiar and are in first name basis with will be extremely helpful in the event that you come across some kind of difficulty in the wedding. It helps if you have people that you can go to for any questions or if you need to confirm anything because there is a pretty big chance that you will not be able to ask the bride and the groom anymore because they might end up pretty occupied already.

Wedding photographers should understand the fact that their gear is one of their most prized possessions and should take very precious care of their gear. Not all wedding photographers understand this though but as a newcomer to the industry, this is one of the basics that should be understood by one and all. You need to clean up your cameras after every use. Invest in great cleaning kits because this will make your gear last for a long time and that’s what you should be going for if you want to be in business for a long time.

  1. They do not go through the motions of properly backing up their images and safely storing them.

This should be the kind of habit that you need to get into after every single gig. Memory cards are absolutely notorious for getting corrupted or for corrupting the files that you get to save in them and that is why it is not advisable to keep your images in them for a prolonged period of time. Get a pair or so of external hard drives or some other forms of memory bank that lets you save your images in bulk. You can start off with a couple or so of flash drives if the external hard drive proves to be too much of an investment for you in the beginning.

  1. They do not bother to visit the wedding venues or locations a few days ahead of time.

Although this is amenably not a requirement for professional photographers, this is something that should be done in order to prep up for the event accordingly. Visiting the wedding venue well ahead of time will make you more familiar with the place so that you know all of the best spots to photograph during the actual wedding day. This will also enable to you be able to better position yourself so that you do not have to have those awkward moments wherein you are trying to figure out where you should be planting your tripod in once the guests start coming in for the wedding event.

  1. They shoot too many pictures per person and end up trashing most of the files that they shoot.

Due to the somewhat unlimited memory space liberties brought on by technology, wedding photographers in general seem to be under the impression that they can take as much photos as they can just because they can. The best rule to follow here would be to take three clicks per frame and that should be it. Keep it minimal so you don’t have to worry too much about trashing too many shots.

  1. They do not learn how to edit their own photos.

You want to invest in a high quality photo editing software and you might want to teach yourself or get some classes so you can learn how to edit the photos professionally. This is what our wedding photographer essex did. You want to learn the basics so you can go about this quickly and efficiently.
